What is the EIPA Post-Assessment?

The Post-Assessment is the same  as the first EIPA (Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment) that you took to ascertain your appropriate training needs at the beginning our your involvement with this Grant project.  This post assessment will be used to compare your skill growth and will provide information so that you can better determine your level of readiness for State Certification examinations.

What if I haven't taken any workshops?

Even if you haven't taken any workshops, or even if you have taken just a few, we still encourage you to take the Post Assessment.

Why should I take the Post Assessment?

There are three very good reasons to be re-assessed:

1.  Feedback.   Once we have rated the Post Assessment you will be provided with the assessment scores, just as you were in the original assessment.  Comparing it to your original assessment will give you valuable feedback on how much you have improved, and areas that you can focus your energies to improve upon.   Should the Grant be extended beyond June 2003 and more workshops are available, you can determine what further workshops you feel you need to further hone your skills.

2.  Research Data.  One of the aspects of the Grant is to advise the officials in New YorK State Education Department on what criteria and levels should be considered when creating the certification exam.  The Post Assessments provide a tool to determine whether or not, and to what extent Mentoring and the Grant Performance Workshops are succeeding in providing skill improvement.  Further, it will aid New York State in creating realistic and appropriate certification process.  Your cooperation in this will have a great effect on how the certification process will unfold.

3.  Practice.  In your workshop evaluations, many of you have said that you are uncomfortable being video-taped.  The Post Assessments provide a further opportunity for practice being videotaped, and will aid you in becoming more comfortable in this situation.

How long does the Post Assessment take?

The Post Assessment should take about an hour, though you'll want to be at the facility about a half-hour earlier to warm up.  Contact your coordinator to sign up for the time slot you would like, or that is available.  Depending upon the number of sign-ups, and available Proctors and equipment, we hope to assess 5 interpreters per Proctor in each location, so sign up early to get your slot!

Where are the Post Assessments going to take place, and if I miss the one in my area, will it be offered again?

Since the Grant officially ends at the end of June, we are scrambling to complete Post Assessments by the END OF MAY 2003.  If the State decides to extend the Grant past June 30, 2003, we hopefully will be able to provide Post Assessments to anyone who wants them afterward.  Until that has been decided, however, here is the Schedule for Upstate NY:
