Marilyn Mitchell is a retired
Associate Professor and current director for a New York State Education
Department Project, at NTID/RIT, in collaboration with Monroe #1 BOCES. She has a MS in Career and Human Resource
Development, CSC from RID, Master Mentor Program (MMP) Certificate from
the U
of CO, Boulder, and has been employed in the field of deaf education
and
interpreting for almost 40 years.
Marilyn retired, 2001,
from teaching in the interpreting degree program at NTID to devote her
time and energy to directing the project, to provide community
interpreting, consulting and to volunteer actitvites in the community.
Several valued
highlights are
important in Marilyn's career and were driving forces behind her
continued growth and
passion about interpreting, deaf education and interpreting
education. She served in the development
of the National Interpreting Certification (NIC), is the lead trainer s
in the Self-Study Review for CIT and CCIE accrediation. She also
contributed to the development of domains and
competencies necessary for successful employment upon graduation from a
bachelor's degree in interpreting. Along with being granted tenure at
RIT,
Marilyn has received several awards: GVRRID Outstanding Service Award,
the New
York State Support Service Personnel Robert F. Panara Award, RIT
Eisenhart
Award for Outstanding Teaching, and the Judie Husted Award for Region I
RID.
