Theatrical/ Artistic Interpreting in the School Setting II

Total hours: 14 hours

This workshop will provide participants with an introduction to the concept and process of theatrical interpreting for plays and musicals in the educational setting.    Dialogue will cover topics such as technical considerations, script analysis, character development and theatrical interpreting models. Additionally each participant will have the opportunity to perform a scene from a play or musical.

  • Professionalism in Interpreting
  • Advocacy (interpreter)
  • Training students to use interpreting services
  • Sign Fluency (rhythm and rate)
  • Message Processing:  Appropriate eye gaze, contact movement
  • Use of signing space:  Use of verb directionality/pronominal system
  • Use of Signing Space: Location/relationship using classifier systems
  • Signs: Signs made correctly using all parameters
  • Message Processing: Gestalt, chunking (developed a sense of whole message)
