Cochlear Implants: Educational Implications for Children

This workshop will describe what a cochlear implant is, how it works, and
who is a candidate for an implant. Included will be information on
the role of the educational interpreter in supporting the educational and
language development of children with cochlear implants in and outside
the classroom. Participants will also become aware of the debate
over cochlear implants, including the National Association for the Deaf
position paper on implants for both children and adults and the Deaf community
perspective on implants and their impact on Deaf culture. Activities
will include lecture, video, class discussion and interactive activities.
