Disabilities and the Special Needs Deaf Student

Sign language interpreters provide a communication link between the hearing world and individuals who are deaf, hard-of-hearing, or deafblind.  Sometimes, the persons for whom they are providing interpretation will have other special needs or will wish to communicate with persons who have other special needs.  The interpreter needs to have a basic understanding of special needs and their impact on the individual and his or her environment in order to be effective in communication.
