Mentoring Guidelines

Level:  varies, initially  2.0-2.5 on EIPA

Maximum Number of Participants: 1 on 1. and/or small group (5 on 1)

Total hours: varies, initially 1-3 times for diagnostic assessment, using EIPA video tape.  Initial meeting is 1 1/2 hours, subsequent meetings are 1 hour each.

This experiential offering will establish appropriate course and/or workshop placement for educational interpreters.  Initially, interpreters who scored 2.0-2.5 on the EIPA will receive small group or 1-1 mentoring with individual attention given to their EIPA video taped presentation and/or on-the-job interpreting.  The mentor will be an experienced mentor and educational interpreter or deaf person with certification and/or knowledge in both ASL and English.  The initial session will attempt to provide guidance to the interpreter for the most appropriate sequence of training opportunities and/or ASL classes.

The mentoring program and offerings will expand in the future to involve more interpreters needing 1-1 or small group attention.
