In 1999 the Preparation of Educational Interpreters (PEI), now known as the Technical Assistance Center (TAC) for the PEI, determined that the assessment, Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA), with stimulus developed in NYC, would be an appropriate screening to use when determining the skills NYS educational interpreters had or need to develop. The screening has been very effective and successful. However, as we continue to offer screenings to our NYS educational interpreters, the screening will no longer carry the EIPA title. The tool will now be identified as a skills screening only.
The EIPA is no longer used as an assessment and is now a nationally known psychometrically validated test. NYS and the TAC would be infringing on copyright issues if we were to continue calling it the EIPA.
Should you (or an interpreter on your staff) wish to be screened for the purpose of identifying skill areas needing development, you may contact the coordinator in your regional site (go to Regional Site Maps) and schedule a time and place for a screening.
